Ingrid Andsnes

Piano

She was born into a music family on  the island of Karmøy, and studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before she, like her brother Leif Ove, moved to play with professor Jiri Hlinka at the Barrat Due institute – the Czeck-born master who among many other of our leading pianists also taught our own artistic director Christian Ihle Hadland. When Ingrid was 25, she was awarded the Janácek prize at the Rudolf Firkusny competition in Praha. She was widely lauded for her interpretation of Beethoven’s Diabelli variations, and also played this in a production at the Norwegian theatre. In addition to playing with orchestras and at recitals, she is a keen practitioner of chamber music.
